What is a measured survey?

A measured survey is the process of surveying and producing illustrations like floor plans, section drawings and elevations before beginning a construction project, whether small or large.

Measurements from the survey are used to produce CAD drawings in the design stages. These surveys can range in scale and level of detail, with more complex ones including factors such as plumbing, electrical fittings and any other specified information.

As part of our in-house architectural service, we offer comprehensive measured surveys in which we draw on our experience and the latest techniques and technology to assess the dimensions of all elevations and floor spaces. This includes cross-sections, details of openings such as doors and windows, and non-structural elements like fixtures and fittings.

Please get in touch with our specialists today if you would like to find out more or start the process.

"Precise measured surveys are the foundation of effective building design, providing precise data that ensures plans align with reality, minimises costly errors and supports seamless collaboration between architects, engineers and contractors."

Frequently asked questions about measured surveys

What are the benefits of measured surveys?

Using a measured survey can ensure that your plans and drawings are accurate for your development. Another area in which measured surveys are indispensable is in the production of 3D models, which can greatly speed up the design process. These enable architects to explore a variety of ideas quickly. They also give stakeholders a highly visual representation of current or proposed building work.

How much do measured surveys cost?

The true cost of a measured building survey depends on your property’s size, where it is located and the level of detail required. Typically, a small or medium building could cost between £500 and £2,000 while you may pay upwards of £5,000 for large or complex sites.

However, every job is unique and will require its own solutions. We advise contacting us to get a quote for your project.

How long does a measured survey take?

A full measured building survey can be done in two to three hours for smaller spaces but may take a few days for bigger properties. During your consultation, we can give you a more accurate timeline.
