Happy retirement, Diane!
We will be saying farewell to Diane Gratton who will be leaving Ernest Wilson this month after 45 years in the job!
Diane joined the business in June 1979 and without giving her age, we can say that she’d had to wait 2 months until she’d reached her sixteenth birthday! June was the month that the world caught James Bond in Moonraker in the hit film of the year. In those days the business was under the helm of Robert Williamson, who was moving the company into the modern era and Diane was there to witness and assist with it all.
Keeping our sales targets and projects in order is a task in itself, but Diane has done so with the skill and expertise that you now always expect from our business team.
“Diane started with the business 6 years before I did, but as it was a family business I got to know Di, long before I joined the business. Upon joining, she was, and has always been, a pleasure to work with.
“She has adapted with the business as the world has changed and remembers the days before we had any form of computer system (we did have the odd Casio calculator and electric typewriter), before car phones were a thing – let alone the handheld mobile phones we have today.
“Diane is the only member of staff in the business today that has worked here when everything was done manually, through several different (what we now call) CRM systems and even before the internet was a thing.
"She has adapted easily through it all but it’s the personal things that we will all miss, she has been a friend to all and a mentor to many new starters over the years. It really is the end of an era.”
Diane was with the team when they got computers, and she was there when the team moved from Bradford to their current Leeds office. An invaluable part of the team, we will miss her warm enthusiasm and generosity. Don’t be a stranger, Diane!
