Last week saw the Eddisons team join over 14,000 attendees at Leeds Dock for the third UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF). The jam-packed 3-day event seamlessly brought together all representatives of the built environment, consisting of regional authorities and local councils, government departments as well as investors and developers.
The critical topic of 'Net Zero' unsurprisingly emerged as a driving theme. A majority of discussions centred on the pivotal role of the built environment in advancing towards the government's sustainability goals.
A real sense of collaboration across all sectors subsequently emerged as a key outcome of the discourse. Individuals agreed that both the public and private sectors need to work cohesively to enhance our nation's decarbonisation efforts.
To mark the incredible milestone of 180 years of Eddisons, we also hosted our fringe event on the second day at Flight Club Leeds. We’d like to say a massive thank you to all of those that attended and made it an evening to remember!
Unlocking Public Sector Decarbonisation Funding
During the second day of the event, our very own Nazar Soofi, Head of Sustainability and Decarbonisation, chaired an inspiring panel session on ‘Unlocking Public Sector Decarbonisation Funding’ while the rest of the Eddisons team took part in some engaging discussions, developing new connections with like-minded leaders.
With Nazar Soofi leading the discussion, the rest of the panel speakers offering their valuable insights were:
- Janet Smith – Head of Sustainability, The Royal Wolverhampton & Walsall Healthcare NHS Trusts
- Ian Rodger – Director of Programmes, Salix Finance
- Andy Williams – Director of Regeneration & Economy, Coventry City Council
- Karen Carter – Director of National Delivery, Pagabo Group
- Polly Cook – Chief Officer, Climate, Energy and Green Spaces, Leeds City Council
The session covered a wide array of topics, including the urgency of focusing on retrofits to meet Net Zero targets and the pressing need for increased funding.
The significance of building a strong supply chain was highlighted as well as the importance of having a strategic plan, emphasising the essential role of Public Private Partnerships in driving progress towards decarbonisation goals.
The session also showcased a number of successful projects, providing valuable insights into actionable initiatives in the sector.
Lastly, Eddisons would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made our UKREiiF experience so fantastic! We can't wait to see everyone again next year and continue building great connections.
