The letting of a kiosk café on one of Cambridge’s busiest thoroughfares sees a local independent food & beverage trader with its second outlet in the city in 18 months.
Acting as the sole agent, Eddisons has let the rotunda kiosk on Christ’s Pieces in Cambridge city centre to the same operator who has successfully run the kiosk on Jesus Green since spring last year (2023).
Opening this autumn, and relaunching as the ‘Cambridge Kiosk’, the 275 sq ft rotunda unit is situated at the edge of Christ’s Pieces, adjacent to the Drummer Street Bus Station and Emmanuel Street bus stands.
The kiosk had been closed for a while before Eddisons began to market it in this spring following instruction by the landlord to find an occupier on a new lease.
That new tenant is Amanda Langley who has a extensive experience in hospitality - dating back to a position as a trainee chef at Cambridge’s University Arms Hotel and, more recently, running public houses on behalf of a brewery.
Having left the hospitality business, Amanda took on a new challenge in setting up her own food & beverage retail business which launched at the kiosk on the city’s Jesus Green last year.
As Amanda explains, in now adding a companion kiosk on Christ’s Pieces, the focus is on deploying her 6 staff in serving contrasting seasonal customers in what are two complementary locations in the city centre.
She said, “Situated in one of the city’s park amenities, trade at the Jesus Green kiosk reflects the fluctuations of the seasons - with peak times in the summer. That’s not to say there isn’t trade in other seasons - we do have regular customers and Cambridge does have tourists throughout the year.
“However, the new Cambridge Kiosk is in a location with consistently high footfall in being next to the city’s central bus interchange and a part of the city that joins the historic centre’s retail and commercial offer with that of the Grafton Centre and surrounding area.”
Additionally, Amanda confirmed that she will be scoping out the possibility of extending free events, such as storytelling for adults & children and seasonal visits by Santa Claus & friends and Easter Egg hunts, that already take place at the Jesus Green venue to the new Cambridge Kiosk venue.
Announcing the letting of the kiosk, Eddisons’ Joe Berry said, “The re-launching of the kiosk on Christ’s Pieces will be much anticipated by residents, commuters and tourists alike. It’s in a key, central location.
“Amanda’s plans for seasonal adjustments to the menu, plus her sourcing of cakes & bakes from a local independent operator, will add to the ‘indie retailer’ scene that endures in commercial pockets of Cambridge.”
