Project
Eddisons' professional relationship with Savoy Cinemas Ltd stretches back over 25 years, during which time they have helped the Nottingham-based, established pan-regional cinema operator expand its multi-screen portfolio.
They’ve acted for the leisure operator on acquisitions in a number of locations, including Worksop, Doncaster, Grantham & Boston.
Most recently, in 2024, Eddisons, led by Lincoln’s Tim Bradford, negotiated to acquire the former Empire Cinema on Princes Gate Retail Park, Catterick Garrison - a 7-screen cinema serving the North Yorkshire garrison town and its catchment area.
Approach
The cinema closed in 2023 when national operator Empire Cinemas went in to administration. Savoy Cinemas’ acquisition will see the cinema re-open its doors in late summer 2024, following an internal fit-out and rebranding exercise ahead of launch.
In a deal for the client, immediately prior to this, Eddisons acquired a site in the historic centre of Gainsborough where it was, subsequently, appointed as the project manager and quantity surveyor for the forthcoming brand new 4-screen cinema.
Construction of the new cinema is well underway following the demolition of old buildings and the clearing of the site in the town’s Market Square conservation area. The project is on track for a cinema launch in Q2 2025.
Results
Eddisons continues to advise Savoy Cinemas on a number of new sites, presently including across the Midlands and the North of England. Eddisons will make announcements, in tandem with the client on any new acquired sites or locations, as the cinema operator’s business expansion gathers pace.
As a firm, Eddisons, from the Lincoln office, has acted for other clients on a number of cinema, leisure and retail projects, including Lincoln’s landmark, ongoing Cornhill Quarter regeneration initiative.
We’re glad to be adding these latest two locations to our growing portfolio of cinemas across the country.
They are contrasting acquisitions - the Gainsborough complex giving new life to a derelict site and playing its part at the heart of the revival of the town centre, whilst Catterick Garrison is reviving and refreshing a cinema experience on a purpose-built retail leisure park in giving the area’s keen cinema-going audience a much-missed multiplex experience once more.
On both of these acquisitions, Eddisons’ professional approach has been to the fore in securing the deals and steering the projects through to what we are confident will be successful launches and ongoing additions to our business.
Eddisons continues to play its part in the growth and regional reach of the Savoy Cinemas chain.
