The North Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust sees more than 135,000 people in their emergency departments every year.
In 2020, the Trust asked Banks Long & Co to survey 4,700 windows across their three live hospital sites:
- Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
- Scunthorpe General Hospital
- Goole and District Hospital
Working alongside the client, Banks Long & Co were tasked with formulating and delivering on a strategy to ensure every window at each site complied with the Department of Health’s (DOH’s) safety regulations, without interrupting the crucial day-to-day operations of the hospitals.
Approach
Banks Long & Co checked each individual window in line with the requirements set out in HBN 00-10 Part D - maintaining daily contact with the Trust, and working closely alongside staff members to prevent disruption to the hospitals’ operations.
The survey data was collated in a schedule, allowing the Trust to search, sort and filter the data to identify priority works to windows across their whole estate.
Results
The survey was completed successfully, with every item thoroughly detailed and cross-examined with criteria set out in the HBN.
Despite the survey being conducted in the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, the logistical experience of the team, combined with consistent communication with the client, ensured the crucial work of the hospital staff was in no way hindered throughout the comprehensive programme of survey work.
Banks Long & Co worked really well with the Capital Projects Team and the Clinical Team to ensure no Clinical Services were affected by the window survey. The survey covers every item detailed within the Health Building Note’s criteria, and creates a full list that includes all necessary replacements and repairs.
